Lussi Night Press - FAMILIAR ZINES

$10.00

I wrote each of these zines myself, and printed many of the covers by hand using my letterpress. I write about things that interest me: health & wellness, natural movement, folkways, getting outside, and empowering yourself through creativity & sustainability, and living closer to the land.

Select from the drop down menu:

Sauna animism & Bathing rituals from the far north

This is a zine I wrote about Sauna Magic to accompany my milwaukee-based class, “Sauna Animism & sacred bathing rituals from the far north”. It’s a good beginners guide to the history and lore around sauna bathing for European descendant folks.

**Hold off on buying this zine if you plan to take my class someday!**

Plain Living I

THIS ISSUE:

Making drinking glasses from used bottles - Carving spoons around the campfire - Brewing Kombucha

After an 11 year gap, I decided to continue the PLAIN LIVING series! This original issue has been minimally edited from its first form to create context for the series I plan to continue today. Read on!

in 2013, I wrote plain living no.1 in my basement apartment in chicago after I planted my first garden and began my urban homesteading journey. I’ve done a lot of living since those early days.

When 2020 hit and grocery store shelves were empty, I was new to milwaukee and didn’t know anyone. I made myself useful through sharing social media posts about how to stretch food, how to preserve what you had left, and how to make things from scratch that weren’t available. Through this process I realized that not everyone has this knowledge, and I aim to make it more fun and accessible for everyone- not just in a crisis.

urban homesteading is a way of life; a choice to live in the city AND practice a lifestyle close to the land, with self sufficiency and community building in mind. In today’s world of continuing crisis, global catastrophe and climate change- we have the opportunity to be prepared and take care of ourselves and each other when shit hits the fan.

each issue features simple projects in plain language that will get you thinking about getting outside, getting creative, getting your friends involved and putting down your phone for a little while.

thanks for reading!

Tapping for maple syrup - raising backyard chickens - doing laundry by hand - making homemade mustard

The Cozy Milwaukee Almanac

This is the first zine I wrote in milwaukee: with reflections on cozy slow living, hygge, living in the north, milwaukee from an outsideR’s perspective and tips on things to do in the area (please note that some things have changed since I wrote this in 2020, but it’s still fun!)

Broom + Craft : a beginners guide to broom history, broom lore and broom magic

newly expanded to include what I’ve collected since first releasing this zine in 2020!

This issue: historical context of brooms in the USA, floor sweeps and washes, making your own black salt, superstitions and lore from the US and Europe, broom deities, Swedish folk magic, self sweeping and more
