WORKSHOP: Sauna Animism & Bathing Traditions from the North
WORKSHOP: Sauna Animism & Bathing Traditions from the North
Join us for an evening of magical lore as we deep dive into the living sauna traditions of northern europe & the nordic region. Rachael will guide you through their years of research & experience sweat bathing across the USA and on the lands of their people; we will discuss the elements of the sauna, etiquette & what to expect during traditional sauna, spirits of the sauna, sauna tools, sauna folk magic - and more! After discussion, we will have a chance to embody what we learned and spend a meaningful hour together in the beautiful bathhouses at Hot Spell Sauna, relax with refreshments, and find interest & community connection in these dark days of winter.
*This class is great for anyone interested in their european heritage or the history of sauna bathing as a spiritual practice.
*This event will be held on Tuesday Jan 28 from 6-9pm at Hot Spell Sauna- 822 S. Water St. Milwaukee, WI 53204 (in the parking lot of the Cooperage and Boone & Crockett, in the Harbor District).
*In order to accommodate more students than the sauna can hold in one evening, we will reach out in our follow up email a week prior to class to confirm final attendance and offer night-of sauna seats on a first come, first serve basis. Once sauna seats are at capacity, the remaining students will be given a sauna voucher to schedule a session at their convenience for a future date. Hot Spell is open for business Tuesday through Sunday through March.
ALL FAMILIAR CLASSES ARE BODY/FAT POSITIVE, QUEER FRIENDLY, ANTI RACIST SPACES.
FAQ:
Can I show up late/leave early?
No, class will start promptly so please allow someone else who can arrive on time to secure their seat.
However, you may choose to leave after the lecture is complete if you wish and skip the sauna portion, opting for the sauna voucher at a later date. The lecture is 2 hrs long; the following sauna session will be 1 hr. Part of the magic of sauna bathing is not having anywhere to go- do not attend class if you have a looming sense of urgency. Sometimes lectures run a little overtime.
Can I bring a snack?
Yes, please do! As we will be working through the dinner hour, you may bring a light & simple snack to eat during class, just pack out what you pack in. Bring a snack to share if the spirit moves you!
Do I need to bring anything?
Just wear a bathing suit under your clothes, bring two towels, a water bottle, and a notebook for taking notes.
